Rich is President of sitesALIVE! Foundation and is America’s only two-time finisher of the Vendée Globe, the solo, non-stop, round-the-world race in Open 60s, finishing 9th of 11 finishers of 30 starters in 2008-9, and 13th of 18 finishers of 29 starters in 2016-17. He has received the Blue Water Medal in 2004 from the Cruising Club of America, and an Honorary Doctorate from Massachusetts Maritime Academy for his record-breaking clipper-route voyages created to excite and engage K12 schoolchildren globally via sitesALIVE! He was the Skipper of the winning yacht Holger Danske in the 1980 Bermuda Race.
